Telematics to Forest Fire Management |
Forest Fire Risk Management Information System – (FFRMIS) Emphasis Telematics designed FFRMIS allowing for better management and handling of
Main features of the FFRMIS
Monitor the fleet of firefighting vehicles in real time Monitor meteorological data in real time, from fixed and mobile weather stations Estimate the risk for of a new fire incident in real time Assist field forces and headquarter coordination staff to improve precision of operations and overall performance
• Real Time Meteorological Data monitoring through distributed network of meteorological stations (fixed and mobile stations) • Geographic Information System (GIS) for visualization and management of spatial data (ground morphology, road network, settlements, flora types, water intake locations etc.). • Forecast Fire Spread Model for fire expansion forecasting applying the BehavePlus simulation model and utilizing ground morphology and real time meteorological data (wind velocity and direction, temperature and relative humidity). • Vehicle Track System, providing real-time geographical position of field forces using satellite tracking technology (Global Positioning System - GPS).
FFRMIS Architecture
FFRMIS Application Software The FFRMIS application software is based on the Talent Cruiser platform • Provides 2D & 3D navigation over • Displays the current position of the fire and of its estimated progress, in combination with the location of the firefighting vehicles, in real time. • Displays weather data in real time • Search and filtering of all information essential to support operations • Measures distances
Field Force Workstation and
Mobile Workstation
• Provides 2D & 3D navigation over • Displays the current position of the fire and of its estimated progress, in combination with the location of the firefighting vehicles, in real time. • Search and filtering of all information essential to support operations • Measures distances • Heavy duty workstation terminal design In vehicle meteorological data station
• Wind speed and direction • Temperature • Relative humidity • Folding mast design (5m overall height)
Fixed Meteorological Data Station Locations • Installed at 6 locations distributed over • Real-time meteorological data collection – wind velocity and direction – temperature – relative humidity • Data stored on FFRMIS Base Station
Fixed Meteorological Data Station Equipment Solar panel and auxiliary battery ensures uninterrupted operation of the equipment.
